Endless Summer Fun: Creative Activities to Keep Kids Entertained

Summer is a magical time for kids – no school, long days, and endless possibilities for fun!  However, keeping them entertained can sometimes be a challenge. Here are some creative and engaging activities to ensure your kids have a summer filled with adventure, learning and fun!

Outdoor Adventures!

1. Nature Scavenger Hunt

Create a list of items for your kids to find in your garden or a local park. Include things like a feather, a smooth rock, a yellow flower, and a butterfly. This activity encourages exploration and appreciation of nature. This activity also inspires children to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. Check out our range of toy insects, including butterflies, that can be used for the perfect scavenger hunt.

2. Garden Camping

Set up a tent in the garden, have a picnic, and spend the afternoon listening and telling stories.  You’ll enjoy the feeling of camping without leaving home!
And for an extra level of fun, why not have a go at learning traditional camping techniques like knotting skills? If you’d like to decorate your den or just make it a little more comfy for your kids to play in, we have some lovely sensory puzzle mats and soft cuddly toys that would fit perfectly inside a tent or den.

We have some lovely starter kits for camping beginners and younger children including knot-making, bug-spotting guides and homemade den building kits

Creative Crafts

1. DIY Bird Feeder

Make bird feeders using pine cones, peanut butter, and birdseed! Hang them around your garden and watch the birds come to feast. This activity is a hands-on creative task. Children can enjoy the results of their homemade Bird feeders thereafter! All you'll need is some basic “ingredients” such as a small bird feeder and some seeds/bird food.

For younger children, we recommend The Den Kit Co Make A Pizza For The Birds, a reusable bird kit with all ingredients included. There is also a card selection to help children see which birds will be drawn to the different foods, making a wonderful learning activity.

2. Playdough creations

Collect different shapes, stones, and leaves to stamp into your favourite playdough. This is the perfect activity to use what you already have, creating a new activity for your kids to get excited about.

For an alternative spin on this crafty play idea why not use paint as a replacement?  Leaves make the perfect patterns for paint printing. You can print these designs onto a piece of card, paper or fabric. This activity is simple but alluring for children, a classic favourite with a twist. Looking for some inspiration, we have a charming range of stamps from Curiosity Corner and Yellow Door.

Educational Activities

1. Science Experiments

Simple experiments like making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar or growing crystals in a jar can be both educational and exciting.  We have an exciting volcano set ready for children to get messy with!

2. Reading Challenge

Create a summer reading list and challenge your kids to read a certain number of books. Reward them with a special treat or outing when they reach their goal.
As important as reading skills can be, so are listening skills. Why not play their favourite audiobooks and create a re-capping challenge for kids to talk about things they remember in their books? A super fun 2 in 1 game!

Cooking and Baking

1. Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

Make these delicious ice cream sandwiches at home with your kids. Let them choose their favourite flavours and mix-ins. Select a good cookie or biscuit to sandwich your ice cream in. And just have yummy fun!

If you're looking for ice-cream fun but without the sugar why not try some pretend play instead? With just as much excitement and fun, we have the perfect ice cream shop wooden toy set! This gorgeous Little Dutch ice cream set is sure to be a winner with the kids. This activity encourages communication and imagination.  A perfect non-edible summer treat for the kids.

2. Pizza Party

Have a pizza-making night where everyone creates their own pizza with their favourite toppings. Allowing children to be as creative as possible, channel their inner chef!
But if this pizza party isn't the one for you why not have a role-play session with our Jabadabado Wooden Pizza Oven set
